A suspected drunk driver is in custody after police say he struck an elderly man Tuesday as he crossed the street in Queens.
Investigators say Lizardo Aladana, 89, was walking across 21st Avenue in Astoria just after 6 p.m. when he was hit by a black Mercedes SUV.
Aladana was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The driver, 67-year-old Demitrios Matsoukatidis, 67, was charged with vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated and faces up to seven years in prison if convicted.
