Police have arrested a Manhattan man for allegedly stealing a minivan in the Bronx that contained a three-year-old inside last weekend.

Joseph Fuscaldo, a 58-year-old Harlem resident, is facing charges of assault, robbery, kidnapping, reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child.

Police say Fuscaldo stole a minivan in front of a Kingsbridge flower shop, after the the shop's owner, Lucila Saavedra, went inside the store, leaving her keys in the ignition and her son in the car.

By the time Saavedra went back to get her three-year-old son, Maximus Ramirez, out of the car, authorities say Fuscaldo was already driving away.

Saavedra then broke her leg when she threw herself in front of the van to try to stop it.

The boy's uncle found the van about an hour later, with Maximus still strapped in his car seat.

While the child was scared but unharmed, his mother will remain hospitalized for several weeks.
