City parks officials are giving the Tavern on the Green in Central Park a new lease on life and a smaller, more historic design.

Parks officials say the revived tavern will get a $10 million makeover, shrinking the catering hall back to the size of the original 19th century building.

Demolition has already started and the famous Crystal Room is now gone.

A new roof will be put in place, as well as new exterior walls and windows.

The improved restaurant is set to be completed by summer 2013.

Tavern on the Green was once one of the country's highest-grossing restaurants in the country

It closed two years ago after the city refused to renew the lease of the LeRoy family, which had operated it since 1973.
