The Manhattan District Attorney's office is investigating a rape allegation against the son of Police Commissioner Ray Kelly, Fox 5 anchor and former NY1 political reporter Greg Kelly.

A source told the Associated Press that a woman became pregnant and had an abortion after being attacked by Kelly in October. The two reportedly had drinks in Manhattan.

Police turned the investigation over to the district attorney's office because the case involves the police commissioner's son.

Kelly was not on the air on Thursday morning, and a spokeswoman for Fox 5 said he "requested some time off." According to The New York Times, the incident came to light after the accuser's boyfriend confronted the commissioner at a public event and was told to write a letter.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg says the police department followed proper protocol.

"I suspect that what happens to Ray Kelly happens to me all the time. People are always, while you're walking through a crowd, saying things. When you get to be my age, you can't hear most of them, so half the time I don't know what they're talking about. And the answer is, if you have a complaint, to write it, and we take every complaint seriously. In this case, I thought the police department did exactly what they should do. They right away turned over the investigation to the district attorney," said Bloomberg.

In a statement, a lawyer for Greg Kelly said, "Mr. Kelly strenuously denies any wrongdoing of any kind, and is cooperating fully with the district attorney's investigation.”
