Law enforcement sources tell NY1 a one-year-old boy with several wounds was found dead inside a Bronx apartment Wednesday.

The New York City Police Department says officers found the toddler, Richard Fludd, unconscious and unresponsive on the living room floor of an apartment located at 667 East 232nd Street just before noon Wednesday.

The boy was taken to Montefiore Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Law enforcement sources say Richard had a cigarette burn on each arm and a leg is a cast.

Sources tell NY1 that the infant's mother left him with her boyfriend, who says Richard fell.

Law enforcement sources say the boyfriend is now being questioned in the 47th precinct stationhouse, and that the man is not Richard's father.

According to the Administration for Children's Services, no other children lived in the toddler's household.

Neighbors were obviously concerned.

“When I came home, I seen the police out here, and that’s basically all I seen. They told me the kid had a broken leg, but the ambulance took the kid away, but I had no idea the kid passed away,” said one resident.

Another neighbor, Betty Stewart, said she heard a lot of banging Monday night in the apartment where the baby's body was found.

"I could hear a lot of commotion from my dining room. You know, walls are thin," said Stewart.

The medical examiner will determine the cause of Richard's death and ACS officials are also conducting an investigation.
