New York is being slammed as the rudest city in America.
A new poll by Travel + Leisure magazine ranked New York as America's rudest city --edging out Miami, Washington D.C. and Los Angeles.
The poll was based on responses from about 40,000 readers.
New York returned to the bottom rung for the first time since 2009.
Not surprisingly, many who live in the city say New Yorkers are simply misunderstood.
"Everyone's in a hurry and nobody takes the opportunity to do the right thing when they can so it comes across as everyone seems kind of rude," said one New Yorker.
"I help people all the time when they're walking around needing directions. All I do is give directions,"s aid another.
"It's because it's busiest city, people have no time and that's why people say it's rude. It's not always rude," said a third.
On the flip side, readers ranked New Orleans, Louisiana; San Juan, Puerto Rico; and Nashville, Tennessee as America's friendliest cities.
There is some good news for New Yorkers as readers named the city the most stylish and diverse in America.
