Nine people were injured Sunday after a fire broke out inside a Brooklyn apartment building.

The New York City Fire Department says units were called to 2223 Cortelyou Road in Farragut just before noon after a fire was reported in a fourth-floor apartment.

A fire chief on scene says the fire moved quickly up to the sixth floor.

The nine people, including three firefighters, were taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Officials are also investigating an explosion during the fire, which one witness said was an oxygen tank.

"The lady had an oxygen tank on the fourth floor. It exploded so a lot of floors just got messed up because of that oxygen tank," said one witness.

"I heard a big bang a couple of times, like two, three times. I don't know what's going on, just to find out I look out the window. I saw my neighbor's apartment was on fire," said another.

Fire officials say the Red Cross is helping relocate 28 families displaced by the fire.
