Police continued their search Saturday for two suspects after a 34-year-old mother was fatally shot in Brooklyn Friday while shielding children from gunfire.

Investigators say shots rang out across the street from IS 298 in Brownsville just as students were being dismissed Friday afternoon.

They say Zurana Horton, 34, was shot in the face and chest as she hovered over some children to protect them.

Horton was pronounced dead at the scene and is not believed to have been the intended target. Earlier reports had suggested she was pregnant, but police officials denied such claims Saturday.

A 31-year-old woman was also shot in the arm and chest and an 11-year-old girl was grazed on the cheek, but both are expected to be recover.

“As I got to the corner, I seen a bunch of people running and I seen a young lady fall and hit the ground, and the other girl was on the ground shot in the arm. The one that got shot in the face, she passed away right there on the spot,” said one resident who witnessed the shooting.

Police think the shooter may have fired from a nearby rooftop, possibly at a group of teenagers on the street.

Two suspects are being sought, and police are offering a $12,000 for information. The organization 100 Blacks in Law Enforcement is offering $1,000 on top of that.
