The fate of Mayor Michael Bloomberg's former political advisor will soon be in the hands of a jury.
John Haggerty is on trial for allegedly stealing more than a million dollars from the Mayor's 2009 campaign.
He is charged with grand larceny and money laundering and could face up to 25 years in prison for allegedly taking money that was meant for a ballot security operation and using it to buy a house.
As testimony wrapped up Monday, a former campaign aide contradicted Bloomberg's earlier testimony, saying she saw the mayor with the defendant on election night in 2009.
"When the going got tough on election night, when the results were coming in and they recognized that this campaign was closer than what they had ever imagined, after spending more than $100 million, who was at the epicenter of that white knuckle ride? John Haggerty," said Dennis Vacco, Haggerty's attorney.
The mayor's office said Bloomberg's testimony was accurate.
Closing arguments in the four-week trial will begin in the morning.
