MTA's First "On The Go" Touchscreen Unveiled In Bowling Green

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority installed its first "On The Go" device at the Bowling Green subway station today, and it is now providing straphangers with up-to-the-minute commuting information.
In addition to tripping planning and showing neighborhood maps, the interactive touchscreen also helps users find nearby places to shop and eat.

Officials say ad revenue will help the machines pay for themselves.
"So this provides vital, critical information, as well as general service information about the neighborhood, restaurants, things like that," said New York City Transit President Thomas Prendergast.
"I think it's a waste of money. There's probably going to be a line for it, and a lot of people already do have smartphones," said a subway rider. "And if you are really lost, there's always the map and there's always someone to ask. I don't see why we really have to get it."
The pilot project will soon be expanded to four more subway stations and rail hubs.
