Tugboats Go Tow To Tow During Annual Race

Tugboats had the right of way on the Hudson River Sunday as more than a dozen took part in the 19th Annual Great North River Tugboat Race.
New Yorkers watched the competition from Pier 84 or aboard a Circle Line spectator boat.
The race is held to spread the word about the history and future of the harbor.
"It's a great celebration of all the working men and women of New York Harbor. The rest of the year when we're going about our normal lives, they're out here moving garbage scows moving ships, keeping the harbor running, 24/7, and Labor Day is a great time to be able to celebrate what they do for us," said race founder Captain Jerry Roberts.
The most powerful tugs can cross the finish line at Pier 84 in less than six minutes.
Since the tugs vary in size and power, trophies were awarded in different divisions.
