Peninsula Hospital in Queens is staying open for now, and is continuing to accept walk-in patients.

NY1 learned today from a hospital spokesperson that its emergency room is not closing yet.

Neighbors were concerned the hospital was closing Wednesday night.

NY1 was told Peninsula staff will continue to accept walk-in patients and the hospital is not transferring current in-patients.

However, ambulances are still being diverted to other facilities.

The hospital had been struggling financially, and it is in danger of closing for good.

Discussions with investors are ongoing.

Doctors, staff members and locals have been rallying for more than a month to keep it open.

If Peninsula closes, the Rockaways will be left with only one hospital in the area.
