In Brooklyn, Tuesday's quake caused part of a chimney to collapse on top of an apartment building at the Red Hook West Houses and many residents felt the tremor.
"It felt crazy because the whole building was shaking. Everything was falling on the floor in my house. It felt crazy," said one local.
No injuries were reported.
NY1's Budd Mishkin felt the ground shake at a firehouse in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, as he was interviewing a member of the New York City Fire Department over lunch.
It was only a matter of moments before calls started to pour into the firehouse and Mishkin watched as the firefighters sprung into action and out the door.
