SLA Busts 123 Stores For Selling Alcohol To Minors

More than 100 stores across the city were busted this week in a crackdown on underage drinking.

The State Liquor Authority says 123 stores around the city were busted for selling alcohol to underage customers during a three-day sting.

The agency visited 212 stores, focusing on areas where fruit-flavored alcoholic drinks are popular with kids.

Of the stores visited, the Bronx had the highest rate of citations at 79 percent.

Manhattan bodegas sold alcohol to three out of every four underage decoys.

Queens had the best compliance rate, with only 28 percent of clerks breaking the law.

First-time offenders face a $2,500 fine.

Repeat offenders can be cited up to $10,000.

The US Bodega Association says it's not surprised by the number of offending stores, given regulators' lax enforcement over the past decade
