The developer of the Atlantic Yards project in Brooklyn is looking to fight rodents in the area by giving out heavy duty trash cans to local residents.
Forest City Ratner is providing the cans in response to community complaints about a boom in the rat population in and around the construction site.
The developer says a review of work in the area found garbage in the neighborhood that was not being properly thrown out.
The review recommended the use of stronger trash cans to keep rats at bay.
The free cans are available to everyone in residential buildings with 12 units or less within the area south of Atlantic Avenue from 4th Avenue to Vanderbilt Avenue; Vanderbilt from Atlantic to Bergen Street; Bergen from Vanderbilt to 4th Avenue; and the east side of 4th Avenue from Bergen to Atlantic Avenue.
The garbage cans will be given out starting August 15th at the Atlantic Yards Liason Office on Carlton Avenue.
For more information, residents can call the Liason Office at 1-866-923-5315.
