Authorities in the Bronx are searching for whomever fired the shot that sent a five-year-old boy to the hospital last night.

It happened at around 10:30 p.m. near Holland and Astor Avenues in Bronxdale.

Adonte Peartree was walking down the street with his mother when the shots were fired.

He was hit in the leg.

Police say they do not believe the pair was the target.

"Me and my friend was just like in front of the building," said one witness. "All we hear is pow, pow, pow, couple of gunshots and we knew something was going down. And soon as we turned the corner we just see a lot of people scattering, people running everywhere."

Adonte has been released from Jacobi Medical Center.

Anyone with information about the case is being asked to contact Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-577-TIPS, by texting TIP577 to CRIMES, or by going to NYPDCrimeStoppers.com.
