Local Cooling Centers Stay Open As Heat Wave Roasts City

Officials urge New Yorkers to be careful during the heat wave, and the city will have its 450 cooling centers open through Wednesday.

People trying to beat the heat can also visit city pools and beaches.

Temperatures are expected to reach the 90s through Friday.

The Office of Emergency Management says signs of heat exhaustion include hot, dry skin or cold, clammy skin, weakness, dizziness, nausea or vomiting, shortness of breath or trouble breathing, or Confusion, hallucinations and disorientation.

Consolidated Edison is also asking its customers to conserve power.
