The city is making sure children don't go hungry during their summer vacation.
Organizers from Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry Campaign and the New York City Coalition Against Hunger hit the streets Saturday to get the word out about a free summer meals program.
"Throughout the school year kids have access to free meals through school breakfast, school lunch, but during the summer, a lot of kids don't know that there are meals available to them,” said Jenny Dirksen, the northeast director of Share Our Strength. “We want them to know there are meals being served throughout the city, throughout the country, that are there and waiting for them.”
“There's so many kids in New York City that are going hungry, so I think it's a great cause to come out and try to get that information out," said Cindy Caruso, volunteer.
Children under 18-years-old can show up at a meal site and get a free breakfast or lunch.
