Fans gathered on the Upper West Side Monday for the beginning of the end of Harry Potter.

"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2," the last movie of the series, had its U.S. premiere at Lincoln Center Plaza.

Screaming fans packed the area hoping to get a glance of the boy who lived.

NY1 spoke to some of the stars on the red carpet.

"Just being a part of something that people love so much and that brings so much happiness and joy, I mean just speaking to some of the people out there, you know, it’s just amazing, amazing to be a part of,” said Emma Watson, who plays Hermione Granger.

“Being 5-foot-5 and relatively skinny, I probably won't get cast to play too many more action heroes,” said Daniel Radcliffe, Harry Potter himself. “The fact that I landed kind of this amazing, action-packed, stunt-filled role at such a young age was great."

Alan Rickman, who plays Professor Severus Snape, and Matthew Lewis, who plays Neville Longbottom, paid tribute to "Harry Potter" author J.K. Rowling.

"She's a born writer and she sat down in a coffee bar, pretty penniless, and wrote it longhand, and here we are!" Rickman said.

"The shy, bumbling character who's bullied in school, she made him into the unlikeliest of heroes and I think it's such a lovely message for people to think about," Lewis said.

"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" opens nationwide on Friday.
