Pride Run Takes On Added Meaning In Central Park

After celebrating Friday night's same-sex marriage vote, many were back up early Saturday to pound the pavement for the annual Front Runners New York Lesbian and Gay Pride Run.
The five mile race kicked off in Central Park.
The run coincides with a number of gay pride events being held in the city this week ahead of Sunday's march.
While this year marked the 30th anniversary many participants say the run held extra special significance.
"The run is always a celebration of LGBT pride, but this year you can feel it in the air. This year people are extremely happy," said Front Runners President Megan Jenkins.
"Everybody is the same. Everybody has the same right. So gay, lesbian...everybody," said one race participant.
Money raised from the race will benefit the "It Gets Better Project," which is geared at preventing suicide among LGBT youth.
Meanwhile, organizers expect more than half a million people to participate in the city's 42nd annual Pride March.
The very first march took place in 1970, as a gay rights demonstration marking the first anniversary of the Stonewall Riots the year before.
This year's theme is "Proud and Powerful."
The march kicks off at noon and runs from Fifth Avenue and 36th Street down to Christopher and Greenwich Streets.
