City officials said Wednesday that payments to the scandal-plagued CityTime project will be halted following the firing of a manager who filed inaccurate timesheets.

CityTime is a new time-keeping system in development for city employees.

Representatives from the firm setting up the project said Gerard Denault put in for hours on his timesheet that he did not work.

This is the latest black eye for the system, which is hundreds of millions over budget and the subject of a criminal investigation.

"Obviously New Yorkers can see a great deal of irony in this,” said City Comptroller John Liu. “This is the company and the person in charge of developing a time-keeping system to keep track of city employees and yet they have bilked New York taxpayers for not keeping their own time."

Company representatives said it takes its employees’ time-keeping seriously and is not charging the city for the amount Denault billed.

City Hall released a statement that read, "We will withhold any and all payments until the completion of the Department of Investigation’s ongoing review, which includes a forensic accountant we added last year."
