Students at PS 181 in Brooklyn celebrated the opening of their new playground Wednesday.

It's the 50th collaborative playground built under the Trust for Public Land.

Kids at the East Flatbush school helped design the $1 million play area, which was once a vacant lot.

In addition to jungle gyms and swing sets, there's also a garden where people can plant vegetables.

"The great thing about all of these parks is that they're open after school and on the weekends, so we're not only creating a school park to be used during recess and during the physical education classes, but we're also opening it to the community in a place that's desperate of a safe playplace," said Mary Alice Lee of the Trust for Public Land.

Students say they hope the playground will improve safety in the neighborhood.
