The Metropolitan Transportation Authority says the crew of an M train that stopped short of an elevated platform in Brooklyn has been identified and will be removed from service.

NY1 first reported the incident yesterday.

Photos taken by a passenger show that the train’s last car had not pulled all the way to the platform at the Marcy Avenue station, when the train stopped and opened its doors.

Witnesses say several riders had to stop short to avoid falling onto the elevated tracks, which are about three stories above the street.

One passenger said it could have been a deadly mistake.

"They were rushing off and thank god the first person rushing off was able to realize before falling down that there was no platform, so he held on," said M train passenger Maryanne Lebron. "And the three people behind him kind of stopped short, which kind of saved their lives."

NY1 sent the photos to the MTA. The agency says it is still investigating.
