A passenger exclusively told NY1 that she was riding in the last car of a M train around 5:30 p.m. when the train never fully pulled into the elevated Marcy Avenue station in Williamsburg.

The doors opened and four passengers rushed to get out. One realized that there was no platform and pushed the others in.

"They were rushing off and thank god the first passenger that was getting off was able to realize before falling down that there was no platform so he held on and the three people behind him pretty much stopped short, which kind of like saved their lives," said M train passenger Maryanne Lebron.

According to Lebron, the passengers moved to the front of the car to exit the train.

The doors eventually closed and the train pulled out of the station, which is three stories above street level.

Lebron said no announcements about the incident were made to the riders.

"It shook me up because it could have been me," said Lebron. "Thank God it wasn't, but I still fear for these people. They could have gotten hurt. They could've gotten killed. Instead of rushing home, they could have been rushing to their death."

Many riders who spoke with NY1 at the station Tuesday agree it could have ended in tragedy.

"If they would've walked out, somebody would've fell right here. And got killed. Thank God that nothing happened to nobody," said one straphanger.

"Wow. The doors are open. That's insane. Yes, that's a big drop. Wow," said another.

The Marcy Avenue station is the first stop in Brooklyn on the M and J lines after coming across the Williamsburg Bridge.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority released a statement Monday saying, "this is obviously something we take seriously and we are investigating."
