The fight to legalize same-sex marriage in New York State has earned celebrity endorsement from comedian Joan Rivers.

Rivers stars in an Internet ad released first to NY1, which is one of a series being produced by the Human Rights Campaign, a national gay advocacy group.

"All New Yorkers believe in fairness, that's why we should support marriage equality. For goodness sakes, come on guys," said Rivers.

The group is buying ad space on taxi TVs in the coming weeks to feature the segments.

"I am very confident that we will win the right to marriage equality in New York and that it will happen quickly," said Brian Ellner of the Human Rights Campaign. "The governor is committed to getting this done. He reiterated that support in the State of the State [Address], and we have every confidence in him and in the State Senate, the state Legislature to get this done.”

A bill that would have allowed same-sex couples to tie the knot was defeated in the State Senate in 2009.
