Schools Chancellor Cathie Black got an earful Wednesday night over the city's plan to close 25 failing schools.

She attended a public hearing at IS 195 in Harlem, which is one of the schools slated to close.

Officials say the school performed in the bottom 10 percent of middle schools and a survey found more than a third of its students felt unsafe.

Chancellor Black says she believes the proposal is in the childrens’ best interest, but not everyone agrees.

“No one wants to acknowledge that their children might be in a school that's failing, but this is a school with really terrible statistics. So we wanna say, your children deserve better," Black said.

“We have children in spite of whatever they’re saying here, that continue to achieve. They get into competitive high schools. We had one in Stuyvesant last year," said IS 195 Guidance Counselor Deborah Felder.

Chancellor Black previously visited the school and met with the principal a few weeks ago.
