Police say a person of interest who was being questioned Thursday in connection with attacks on two women in Williamsburg, Brooklyn this month has been arrested.
Rayquan Williams, 21, faces several charges including sex abuse, robbery and menacing.
According to investigators, the first attack occurred on New Year's Day inside a building on Manhattan Avenue between Seigel and Moore Streets.
A 63-year-old woman told authorities the suspect entered the building's elevator with her, forced her out into a hallway and sexually assaulted her.
She was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The second attack occurred Wednesday on Flushing Avenue, only a quarter mile from where the other incident took place.
Sylvie Serra, a 49, said she had just dropped off one of her two teenage children at the bus stop, when she got into the elevator of her building. She was joined by the suspect who, she says, repeatedly asked her if she was afraid and then told her to get off the elevator.
"He insisted, so I said, let me get off because he's starting to get a little more aggressive," said Serra. "So I got off and I just started screaming, calling for help and knocking on everyone's door. He said something like, 'I have a weapon.' I didn't care. I just started screaming even louder. I kept on knocking on doors and then finally someone came out and [the attacker] ran down the stairway. And that's the last time I saw him."
In the wake of the attacks, residents of both buildings say they have created a tenant patrol to monitor the building in the evenings.
There's no word yet on whether Williams has an attorney.
