Workers began the months-long process Monday of raising parking meter rates across the five boroughs.
The city says 25 cents will now get you only 15 minutes, instead of 20.
Muni-meters in Manhattan south of 86th Street will now cost drivers $3 an hour, up from $2.50.
"That's ridiculous, that's like no time at all. Fifteen minutes is as long as it's going to take you to park in the space," joked one city driver.
"It's very expensive to have to live in New York and then to have to pay a premium to park your car it's insane," said another.
Meters in Manhattan and Queens will be changed first, followed by the Bronx in March, and Brooklyn and Staten Island in April.
It will take until the end of June for the meter rates to be raised in all five boroughs.
The Department of Transportation says there are more than 50,000 regular meters and almost 5,000 muni-meters across the city.
It's estimated they produced almost $139 million in city revenue last year.
