The recent storm is making it difficult to help some homebound seniors in the city.

The Visiting Nurse Service of New York is dealing with the unplowed streets and icy conditions.

After having to cancel some deliveries, drivers were back on the road Tuesday delivering food.

Some seniors who spoke with NY1 say they look forward to the meals.

"A lot of people... they are not able to get out and shop you know; especially in bad weather. And a lot of people are ailing and they can't really get around," said one Meals on Wheels recipient.

"You wouldn't have a hot meal. You wouldn't be as well as you are. And you can depend on them, and the food is excellent," said another.

"They might not have family members close by, and we're really their only company for the day. Besides delivering a meal, we're their only company," said Visiting Nurse Service of New York Meals On Wheels Program Director Sal Bastardi.

VNS New York delivers meals for more than 2,200 people each day in Queens alone. The deliverers also discover seniors who have fallen or need help.
