In the wake of his censure after a two-year ethics investigation, Congressman Charles Rangel told NY1 in an exclusive interview Monday he’s not going anywhere and wants to serve out his full 21st term in the House.

"Let me say this and I can't say this any more definitive and that is that my community, evidence, confidence in me that I would be there to fight their battles and do the best I can to improve the quality of life and get some jobs for them, it just wouldn't be fair to them and I wouldn't know how to tell them I'm walking away from this responsibility," Rangel told NY1 political anchor Errol Louis.

The 80-year-old Rangel also ripped the local media for how it covered his case, in which he admitted to not paying all of his taxes and improperly raising money for a City College center in his name.

"Let me thank you for following the facts because some of our local newspapers are still talking about corruption, when right there on the website they could find out the facts, if I thought they were interested in them," Rangel said.

The Congressman also said that there’s no truth to reports that he and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi argued over the censure proceedings.
