New York City Fire Department officials are eyeing arson as the cause of a series of brush fires on Staten Island.
A four-alarm fire popped up Saturday afternoon in South Beach, after officials were battling two similar fires earlier in the day.
About 200 firefighters were called in to fight the blaze.
One firefighter suffered minor injuries.
The fire was deemed suspicious because there were four pockets of flames.
"If they were closer together we would have said there was a good chance it could have jumped. This area, it was a very large area, and it leads us to believe it was possibly suspicious," said Deputy Chief Roger Sakowich of the FDNY's 8th Division
"Lately there’s just been so many fires going on here and I wonder if someone is setting them deliberately or if real things are happening," said Maria Harmon, a Dongan Hills resident.
Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control, with no structural damage or evacuations.
