A Brooklyn man has been indicted on attempted murder charges, after police say he opened fire on an off-duty officer last month during an alleged robbery attempt.
According to court papers, the district attorney says Winston Cox, 20, tried to rob Sabine's Beauty Salon on October 23. Officials say armed with a gun, he ordered the employees and customers into a back room and demanded money.
That's when off-duty officer Feris Jones identified herself.
Police say gunfire was exchanged and Cox fled the scene, only to be arrested a short time later.
Officer Jones was promoted for her heroism after the incident.
Cox faces 40 years to life in prison if convicted on charges including attempted first-degree murder and attempted robbery.
