Mayor Michael Bloomberg is in China today, leading a coalition of 40 cities working to slow climate change.
Bloomberg is chairing the C-40 Climate Leadership Group in Hong Kong. This morning he led a panel discussion with the mayors of Toronto, Johannesburg, and several Chinese cities.
The mayor said he's impressed China is taking part, and that for the first time, the Chinese understand that the environment cannot be taken for granted.
He took time out of his busy schedule today to call into his weekly radio show, where he discussed whether U.S. solar companies could compete with the Chinese.
"They are at the top of the game, but I think America's gotta not worry about what the Chinese do,” he said. “What we've got to do is try to make our industries better. We've got to reduce taxes and reduce bureaucracy and that's gonna let us compete, and if we don't do that, we just can't compete."
Bloomberg is also taking part in many private meetings, and will visit with railway officials working on a high-speed train line.
He is set to preside over meetings tomorrow and deliver a keynote address.
