Republican Dan Donovan has received the Daily News' endorsement in the race for State Attorney General.
In backing the Staten Island District Attorney, the paper cites Donovan's legal abilities and status as an Albany outsider as sure signs he can bring reform to the state capitol.
The News says he has shown a pattern of nonpartisan criminal justice that "indicates Donovan has legal smarts and a solid commitment to ethics -- a combination that fits exactly with the Attorney General's duties."
The News says Donovan's Democratic opponent -- State Senator Eric Schneiderman -- is one of the smartest people in the legislature with several recent accomplishments, including his work that led to the expulsion of former State Senator Hiram Monserrate.
But it also questions his ability to bring reform, citing his support for Pedro Espada Junior as Senate Majority Leader.
