BOE Officials Discuss Primary Day Mishaps At Council Hearing

Tensions ran high Monday as the Board of Elections testified before the City Council about the mishaps that took place on Primary Day.
BOE officials say that at least six percent of the city's polling sites opened late and many of the poll workers staffing the polls on primary day had received no training on the city's new electronic voting systems.
The Board won't have final data from the primary until December.
"I am very, very troubled by what we've learned at this hearing and it really raises a significant question about the management at the Board of Elections and what steps are being taken to make sure the general election is better than the primary was," said City Council Speaker Christine Quinn.
"I think any government system, especially a government agency like ours, has inefficiencies. Our job is going to be to address those inefficiencies," said New York City Board of Elections Commissioner J.C. Polanco.
The BOE says that it is working to remedy the issues it encountered on Primary Day in time for the general election on November 2.
