The annual Citywide High School Fair began at 10 a.m. Saturday at Brooklyn Technical High School in Fort Greene, but some intrepid middle schoolers lined up at 7:30 a.m. and earlier.

Thousands of students and their parents are coming out this weekend to talk to school representatives and to attend information sessions about the city's high school admissions process.

Students at the event said they are excited to have their questions answered.

"A few questions I want to ask at Brooklyn Tech is how it's possible for me to learn what I want to do for my life and my future," said eighth-grader Tyrell Harrison of Elmhurst, Queens, who wants to study computers.

"When you come to these fairs, you can network with parents, you can find out all different information, and even other schools that we'd like to touch base with," said James Harrison, Tyrell's father.

With hundreds of programs to choose from, both students and parents say the information can sometimes be overwhelming. Gone are the days when students simply attended their neighborhood high school. Under Mayor Michael Bloomberg, students now have to apply to a school of their choice.

"So the good news is students do not apply to schools, they apply to programs within schools and we have just about 700 programs from which students can choose. That's why the high school applications give students the opportunity to make up to 12 choices," said Department of Education CEO of Student Enrollment and Admissions Elizabeth Sciabarra.

The fair will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Brooklyn Tech at 29 Fort Greene Place.
