A health bill for first responders and workers at the site of the September 11th terrorist attacks will be introduced on the floor of the House of Representatives next week for a vote.

The proposed James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act would provide over $7 billion in medical treatment and compensation to sick first responders.

The bill is named for James Zadroga, a first responder who many say died from respiratory illness contracted at the World Trade Center site, a claim that the city's medical examiner denies.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Majority Leader Steny Hoyer released a joint statement saying they hoped to have support from both sides of the aisle.

The bill failed to pass the House in July, after Democratic leaders chose to consider it under a procedure that kept Republicans from tacking on amendments, but required a two-thirds vote to pass.

This time, the bill will only need a simple majority.
