City students are reversing a four-year trend and showing some improved scores when it comes to the SAT test.

According to statistics from the College Board, students who took the SAT this year scored higher on all three sections than their peers did last year.

The improvements were also greater than other students nationwide.

These modest gains did not make up for the decline that had occurred over the past four years.

Since 2006, the participation in the SAT has increased in the city has increased 8.5 percent overall.

Hispanic students have a 53.6 percent increase of participation in the SAT, while black students have a 35 percent increase of participation.

Asian students have a 13.5 percent increase of participation and white students have a 4.4 decrease of participation.

City students are also improving on Advance Placement tests.

The Department of Education reports that participation in AP tests has increased 61.6 percent since 2002, and the number of students passing those exams has increased by 54.9 percent in the last eight years.
