JetBlue's most famous flight attendant is officially out of a job.

A JetBlue spokeswoman says Steven Slater is no longer employed by the airline. But she wouldn't give any more detail out of respect for Slater's privacy.

Slater captured the country's imagination last month when he went on a profanity-laced tirade over a plane loudspeaker before grabbing two beers, deploying the emergency chute, and sliding down to the tarmac at John F. Kennedy Airport.

Slater claimed a confrontation with a rude passenger led to the incident, but some other passengers have disputed his story.

JetBlue originally said Slater was suspended pending an investigation.

He still faces charges of criminal mischief, reckless endangerment and trespassing.
