Five people were injured early Sunday morning after a yellow cab careened off the road and crashed into a storefront in the East Village.

Police say the cab was headed up 1st Avenue around 1:30 a.m. when it was cut off by a black SUV.

The cab then went up on the curb at 3rd Street, striking three people and crashing into the Bean Coffee Shop.

"The cab tried to get out of the way of it, and it went right over that right there, right through the glass, there was a guy inside the store, he was standing right by the glass and he got hit," said one witness.

The three people hit by the cab were taken to Bellevue Hospital along with the cab driver and his passenger.

Police say none of the injuries are life threatening, although one pedestrian's condition is described as critical but stable.

The driver of the SUV stayed at the scene, and police say he is not being charged.
