Federal law enforcement officials say a phone threat that kept a flight from San Francisco to New York City on the tarmac Thursday was "non-credible."
American Airlines Flight 24 was supposed to leave San Francisco for John F. Kennedy International Airport this morning.
According to the F-B-I, someone called in a hijack threat from a business in nearby Alameda, Calif.
While federal officials later deemed the threat as non-credible, the Transportation Security Administration ordered the plane grounded as a precaution.
The 163 passengers and 11 crew members were safely removed from the Boeing 767.
They were driven away by bus to be re-screened and put on another flight.
San Francisco police say they interviewed several passengers who were later freed to make connecting flights.
The investigation was ongoing late Thursday.
