NBA draft pick and New York City native Lance Stephenson was arraigned last night on assault charges after allegedly pushing his girlfriend down a flight of stairs in Brooklyn.

The Indiana Pacers pick allegedly pushed Jasmine Williams down a flight of stairs and then picked up and slammed the woman's head into the bottom step, according to the Brooklyn district attorney.

Williams was treated in the hospital for a head contusion, lacerations to the arm and back and possible neck ligament damage, according to the district attorney.

Stephenson faces charges of second- and third-degree assault, third-degree menacing, third-degree attempted assault, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and second-degree harassment.

He was released on his own recognizance and is due back in court on October 19.

Pacers president Larry Bird says he is aware of the situation, and the team is still gathering information.

Stephenson was a top prospect out of Lincoln High School but pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct last year after being accused of groping a 17-year-old girl.
