It appears the school bus wheels will keep rolling for middle schoolers on Staten Island, at least for now.

The city's plan to stop bus service for thousands of seventh and eighth graders is on hold, after a federal magistrate sent a lawsuit over the decision back to state court – where it could be very difficult for the city to win.

Department of Education officials decided to cut bus service as a way to save $3 million.

The service had been in place thanks to a variance in city law that provided busing to students who are not near public transportation.

Students elsewhere in the city are only guaranteed busing through sixth grade.

NY1 has reached out to the city for comment.
