A JetBlue flight attendant is awaiting arraignment after police say he deployed a plane's emergency chute at JFK Airport Monday.
Steven Slater, 38, is charged with criminal mischief, trespassing and reckless endangerment.
If convicted, he could face up to seven years behind bars.
Police say Slater got into an argument with a passenger on flight 1052, which had just arrived from Pittsburgh.
They say he went on the public address system and said "I'm outta here" then deployed the chute and took off, reportedly taking beer with him.
Police say Slater made it to back his home in Queens, where officers later arrested him.
Neighbors who spoke with NY1 say they were surprised by the incident and the police reaction.
"It was like mayhem, I thought someone had a gun on the beach or something. There was like five thousand cops, it was crazy. It was like something out of the movies. I guess you can't act out on planes anymore," said one neighbor.
"I would think it's hilarious. I think it'd be a joke. Except it would probably hold you up at the airport," said another.
Earlier in the day, JetBlue released a statement saying, "At no time was the security or safety of our customers or crewmembers at risk."
The airline says it is helping with the investigation.
