A Staten Island woman and her two young children are in serious condition after police say they were slashed by the kids' father last night, who then slashed his own throat.

Officers responded to a call of a dispute involving a knife on Hempstead Avenue in Midland Beach just before 8 p.m.

When they arrived, they found 34-year-old Victoria Orlik and her 18-month-old son Brandon outside.

Investigators say Orlik told them that her boyfriend, Douglas Nemeth, 40, assaulted them and barricaded himself in the house with their three-year-old daughter Sasha.

After failing to make contact with the Nemeth, officers broke in and found the him in the kitchen with his throat slashed.

The three-year-old was found in a bedroom.

Nemeth was pronounced dead at the hospital.

"It was a great family, great family,” said one neighbor. “Everybody was very nice. It's a shock for me. This neighborhood, forget about it. I live here since ‘94 and this happened first time."

Police have not yet commented on a possible motive for the slashings.
