In the wake of a string of bias attacks on Staten Island, police released surveillance video on Friday that shows the assault of a married gay man in a local White Castle restaurant earlier in the month.
On July 7, Richard and Luis Vieira were eating at the Stapleton fast food joint when a suspect wearing a T-shirt with the letters "H-C-O" hit Luis Vieira in the back of the head.

Richard Vieira left the restaurant to confront the suspect who hit his husband and got assaulted, but that is not shown in the surveillance video.
Luis Vieira went out to the restaurant's parking lot a short time later and found Richard bleeding from the head.
Authorities are now looking into the incident as a hate crime because they say the suspects used anti-gay slurs.
Police have ramped up their patrols in the area.
There have been at least 10 bias attacks in the borough since April, and most of the attacks targeted Hispanic immigrants.
