A Brooklyn man has been charged with carrying out a bias attack on two other men Saturday morning.
Police say Luis Newman, 43, threatened two men with a knife and made anti-gay comments as they were walking down Utica Avenue between Fulton Street and Atlantic Avenue in Weeksville.
The victims were able to flag down police, who then arrested Newman.
"It's got kinda bad around here now you know and it's really bad because you got the school here and then you have a lot of kids who play in this area. There's been so much muggings and killings and people just like losing it," said one Weeksville resident.
Newman is charged with menacing as a hate crime and criminal possession of a weapon.
