Since Thursday night, St. Vincent's Comprehensive Cancer Center has been owned and operated by Beth Israel.

Workers began taking the signs above the hospital entrance down on Friday and an official ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held within the next two weeks.

Hospital officials said that as soon as the ownership approval went through, Beth Israel began rapidly interviewing staff.

A spokesman for Beth Israel said the hospital will do everything it can to ensure that critical care is not interrupted and a smooth transition among staff.

St. Vincent's opened its cancer center back in 1996.

On April 30, St. Vincent's Hospital was forced to close its other facilities after serving the community for 160 years, due to a $700 million debt.
