A measure that would provide billions of dollars for health care for September 11th first responders passed a key hurdle in Congress yesterday.

The House Energy and Commerce Committee yesterday passed the September 11th Health and Compensation Act.

The legislation now heads to the full House for a vote.

Lawmakers hope to have a final version on President Barack Obama’s desk soon.

The bill is named after James Zadroga, a police officer who spent hundreds of hours at the World Trade Center site and later died of respiratory illness.
