The layoffs of nearly 200 additional Metropolitan Transportation Authority station agents are still on hold, after a judge said Wednesday that she needs more time to decide if the agency should have held public hearings on the issue.

The hearing concerns a lawsuit filed last week by the Transit Workers' Union that aims to prevent the MTA from laying off almost 500 MTA token booth clerks.

The union alleges that the MTA must hold additional public hearings before closing more token booths.

On Tuesday, 266 agents who already lost their jobs showed up to the agency's Bensonhurst facility to hand in their uniforms and ID cards.

The layoffs are part of the agency's plans to handle a nearly $800 million budget shortfall.
